Tokyo Bar Association Human Rights Award

The Tokyo Bar Association's Human Rights Award honors outstanding human rights protection activities conducted by individuals, groups, or organizations (both private-sector and members of the association), and is intended to contribute to the establishment and development of fundamental human rights. The aim of the award is to bring attention to human rights activities by citizens, encourage these people, and give momentum to even more human rights activities.

Recipients of the Human Rights Award have been rewarded for the following activities:

• Actions for redress of human rights violations, such as retrials and false imprisonment defenses
• International protection of human rights
• Contributions or preventive measures to promote human rights legislation
• Research and educational activities to promote awareness of human rights
• Human rights protection activities in the fields of social welfare and environmental pollution
• Other activities extensively related to human rights, such as activities for the establishment of new human rights
